Product FAQ

Why does my flash drive show less capacity
than listed?

  • There are two main reasons why there is a discrepancy between listed capacity of the flash drive and what shows up on your computer. The most likely reason that your 4GB flash drive shows up with only 393GB worth of capacity is due to the small discrepancies in algorithms and file formats by various operating systems. Also a portion of memory space is reserved for system files and data sectors for better flash drive performance.
  • The second reason your flash drive indicates less capacity on the device is due to capacity loss. When manufactured, some devices were not made to support higher capacity of flash drives. It is always recommended that you research information on the device manufacturer to verify the correct supported format and capacity.

How to remove Write Protection On my
USB Flash Drive?

  • People have seen the following errors when their thumb drives, memory card etc. becomes write protected.
  • Cannot copy files and folders, drive is write protected
  • Cannot format the drive, drive is write protected?
  • The disk is write-protected
  • Remove write-protection or use another disk
  • Media is write-protected

TO FIX (A):
Follow the procedure below to remove write
protection from your pen drive.

1. Open Start Menu >> Run, type regedit and press Enter, this will open the registry editor.
2. Navigate to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM-CurrentControlSetControlStorage-Device Policies
Note: If the registry key StorageDevicePolicies key does not exist, you will need to create it.
3. Right click on “Control” key -> New -> Key. Name it “StorageDevicePolicies” without quotes.
4. Now right click on this newly created key and then click New -> DWORD value and name it as “Write Protect”.
5. Modify this key and give it a value 1.
6. Exit Registry, restart your computer and then again re-connect your USB pen drive on your computer. When start using the drive again just give the “WriteProtect” key a value of 0 instead of 1 and restart the PC. That is it, done.

TO FIX (B):

1. Copy all the important data from this drive to your computer because this method will format the drive and erase all the data on the pen drive.

2. Now download the Formatting Utility, https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/support/jp/sd
/sdfv2003.exe)
3. Unzip this utility to a folder on your hard disk, preferably on a folder on desktop screen for easy access (Do Not Try to save it on pen drive). Keep your pen drive plugged in, and double click on the sdfv2003.exe to install the utility. Open the SD formatter utility and start formatting your pen drive, wait till the formatting completes and the LED on your pen drive stops blinking. Remove your pen drive after that and plug it in again. Note: For all those who are out of luck in fixing the problem with their portable drives, I would suggest you to get your drives checked or replaced by the manufacturer to fix it for you.
